Good job Max. You always seem to review something that pertains to my interests. Now if you could just review this mouse here – http://www.a4tech.us/product2.asp?CID=1&SCID=124&MNO=X6-80D
That’s the A4Tech X6-80D. I like it because it’s a no nonsense looking mouse and it doesn’t have DPI functions as far as I can tell. DPI switching while loved by many gamers apparently is a silly gimmick to me and I’d prefer more programmable buttons.
I’m very particular about hardware and my current mouse is an MX510. They are hard to find these days… I even gutted an old MX500 and installed the MX510 parts inside because I prefered the textured shell of the 500 over the smooth as glass 510 shell. So why not the MX500 then right? Well Logitech seems to gloss over it when I asked them at Digital Life show in NYC, but the MX500 does have a glitch. Sometimes the pointer will just wiggle on its own. I’ve seen this on other peoples setups enough to know it wasn’t a problem only with my MX500. MX510 has no such problems and works PERFECTLY!
Another plus for MX510 is that you can use the latest MouseWare drivers which just feel nicer than the Setpoint drivers. That’s a subjective observation I guess. I have an MX518 but you HAVE to use the (bloated for a mouse driver) setpoint software to over ride the hardware level DPI switching to only use them as programmable buttons. So that’s going to be a backup to my MX510 and my frankenstein 510-in-a-500′s body mouse.
The latest group of laser tech mice from Logitech have stolen a few of my beloved buttons from the MX510 layout. I’m sure there will be some laser mice with more buttons when Logitech wants to sell more stuff.
To make a long story short, with my all time fave MX510 going the way of the Dodo bird, I was looking at A4Tech’s mice as alternatives because they have plenty of buttons and the price seems right. BAM, you do an A4Tech review. Awesome. Keep up the good work Max.

Oh man one more thing you mention in your review I have to comment on… EXTRA FEET?! It’s about time. Nothing like someone paying $7… and then another $5 to have some MOUSE FEET shipped to you for your MX510. Teflon tape flakes and makes people homicidally frustrated. Is it too much to ask to have some spare feet with a “gaming” mouse? Kudos A4tech on that one. Sometimes the way consumers get abused by expensive accessories and simple exclusions in product packages amazes me. We need to make a website called Consumers Unite and vent our rage on ridiculous practices in marketing.

I had similar feelings about the MX510 shell – it just seemed to slip and accumulate too much, uh, residue and crap. I’m definitely liking this mouse’s texture. The G5′s single side button was a turn-off for me as well, which is mainly why I picked up the Copperhead (aside from the fact that it glowed red to match my color scheme – yes, the G15′s red too). If it hadn’t been for that little driver annoyance with the Copperhead, I’d probably still be using it.
I’m also glad I’m not alone in being pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of extra feet. All Razer gave me was a certificate of authenticity telling me how officially awesome I was for buying their mouse.
The 3xFire button might be starting to grow on me – I mean, so far it’s useless 98% of the time, but it does make pistols a little more pleasant in CS:Source, and every once in a while I’ll find some obscure use for it (example, eating hundreds of flax seeds quickly in ESIV: Oblivion).

Hey Pants… They put the other button on the side of a new “g5″ looking Logitech mouse.. just like I expected. Those bastards.

Who put what on the what now? Who’s a bastard? Might you be trying to say something about the A4tech X6-80D that I fail to grasp?

Nope. Logitech made a new laser mouse. And brought back a side button the other lasers didn’t have but the optical mice did. They knew people would miss the extra side button and buy another laser mouse again to have it back. I believe it was a mean marketing move.

I haven’t seen this new mouse, but I have to disagree with you when you say “They knew people would miss the extra side button and buy another laser mouse again to have it back.” I’m going to give the consumer a little credit and assume that anyone who purchased the G5/G7 didn’t really care that much about the 2nd side button. I personally DID care about the 2nd side button, so I bought a Copperhead (and then the X-750BF) instead. I think that a new Logitech lazer mouse with two side buttons would serve only to help increase their sales among people who really care about the 2nd side button.
To assume that people would buy a product (Logitech mouse or otherwise) even though it was missing a feature that people consider important, and then to assume that those same people will pay more money for a new product that includes the feature seems like a ludicrous business plan to me. People aren’t that dumb.

Looks like XG used to sell this same mouse (without the 3xFire Button) until they went out of business.
OCZ appears to be selling the exact same mouse that I reviewed, as well as a smaller version aimed at laptop gamers.

I have the previous edition of this mouse which is X750f with 2xFire. Its the blac/silver mouse that is visible in the driver screen shots that you have posted. it served me well for atleast 6-8 months until last month when the left button went crazy on me.
Whats wrong with it? Well it tripple to quad clicks on a single click. Pretty much impossible to select a number of files left click drag because it seems to”loose contact” despite you holding down the left key really hard. Single click is impossible.
i just bought this X750BF lets hope it lasts me longer than the predecessor.
905 of gaming involves World of Warcraft so my mice dont cface the “brunt” of gaming like they would if i was into heavy 3d FPS.
