We will now go over different aspects of the monitors, giving each a point value out of 10, to help us decide which is better overall.

Strangely enough, they have exactly the same overall score. Now that I really think about it, I scored the Samsung too highly in my review. I gave it a 9.8 while I gave the Westinghouse an 8.9. The Westinghouse score is correct, while I could easily drop the 9.8 for the Samsung to a 9.0. I was heavily considering price, though, and the Samsung really does beat the Westinghouse in value. The Westinghouse can be purchased for $500 at Best Buy and the Samsung is $400 at Best Buy. In my opinion, speakers and inputs aren’t worth $100. The Samsung can be had for a lower price than $400 elsewhere, and the Westinghouse is on sale once-in-awhile at Best Buy (the only place you can get it besides eBay) at a deep discount. When it comes down to it, your purchasing decision between these two monitors should be dependant on only two things, in synergism:

1) What do you need this monitor for?
2) How much can you get each for?

If you can get either of them for the same price and you’re using it in an office, go with the Samsung. If you’re using the monitor in your room and want to hook up a DVD player or video game console to it, obviously go with the Westinghouse. They’re both great monitors. For what I need out of a monitor, I would choose the Westinghouse if it could be acquired for the same price as the Samsung – it’s very close, though. The backlighting of the Samsung doesn’t bother me at all, but it’s definitely nice not having ANY backlight bleeding. If you’re not sure what you want to use it for, go with whatever is cheapest.
