Everyone knows that, generally, with faster computers come higher temperatures. It’s been that way since the beginning of the computer age and it still rings true. It used to be that we didn’t even need a fan on our heatsinks with the old 486s, but as soon as that P1 came around, they started requiring active cooling. Eventually it caught on that you can overclock your computer to make it faster – only at the cost of heat. I remember back when people were getting their Celeron three-hundred and somethin’ MHz processors to some pretty insane speeds with only air cooling. Of course, today there are many more options other than air cooling, but none are quite as appealing. Air cooling is simply the easiest, the cheapest, and (usually) the safest.

Nowadays, the market for CPU coolers is anything but sparse. They’re everywhere and everyone makes them. It seems like the heatsink you choose is mainly for aesthetics these days. There are very few coolers that are sub-par, so basically it’s all about looks. Yes, some coolers are better than others at removing the heat from your processor, but with case windows and lighting, there come new requirements for heatsinks. Today we’re going to look at a heatsink that is definitely not lacking in the looks departments. The Scythe Ninja Plus Rev. B is anything but plain. First of all, it’s huge, and second, it’s a beauty to behold. Furthermore, even though it comes with a huge 120mm fan, they claim it can support “fanless” mode! Yes, just like in the good ol’ days! We’re going to go through every aspect of the mammoth and check out how well it performs.

First of all, let’s take a look at the specifications, obtained from Scythe’s Website:
